THE WRITER

Writing has been a lifelong passion for Ariane Sommer. She began penning fairytales and adventure stories for her schoolmates when she was 8-years old. In fact, she taught herself to read from a Pink Panther cartoon book and proceeded to read fairytales to her classmates in Kindergarten at the age of only 4.
Throughout her school years, literature was always of utmost importance and held the greatest interest for Sommer who is also a collector of rare books and first editions. Oscar Wilde, Bertolt Brecht, Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, Virginia Woolf, Susan Cooper, Madeleine L'Engle, Charles Dickens, Guy de Maupassant, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, George Sand and Ernest Hemingway are amongst her favorite writers, to name just a few.
Sommer's most recent work,"Foreign Affairs" published by weissbooks,
a collection of contemporary, edgy short stories narrated from a female perspective was released on the German-speaking markets July 2009.
"The Bible of Behavior" published by Argon and
Fischer Publishing Houses, was an immediate success and received bestseller status within the German market. The clever,
hilarious and socially relevant insights of Sommer in this guide to personal style and etiquette broke the barriers of the more traditional books of this genre and was hailed as "The style guide for the Sex and
The City generation."
The book is currently in the process of getting translated and adapted for the US and Asian markets.
Additionally Sommer has published a series of short stories in German BLANK magazine and is presently writing a column for the British/Chinese publication China Ethos.
She has been featured as both a regular and guest columnist for some of Europe's finest periodicals including Max, InStyle, Playboy, Revue, MODE, Bunte, Cosmopolitan, Celebrity, BILD, Die Zeit.
One of her first published works was a short story, part of a collection written by other German luminaries and authors, with the topic of the most fascinating places in the Berlin of the new Millennium, '99 Lieblingsplaetze' ('99 Favorite Places'), published by Bostelmann & Siebenhaar in 2000.
A sequel was published, 'Berlin, wo es am schoensten ist' ('Berlin where it is most beautiful') in which Sommer participated as well.
Sommer's current projects include the initial volumes of two serialized novels.
